Are you ready to transform your home by adding a loft? A loft conversion is an exciting project that can significantly increase your home’s living space and add value to your property.
However, one of the most frequently asked questions by homeowners is, “How long does a loft conversion take?” The timeline can vary depending on several factors, including the project’s complexity, local authority planning permissions, and the contractor’s schedule.
Let’s explore each stage of the loft conversion process, from initial consultation to completing the build, to provide you with a clear understanding of the time frames involved. We’ll also highlight our unique penalty clause, which ensures our projects are always completed on time.
Consultation
The first stage of any loft conversion project is the initial consultation. Typically, this involves a visit to the home that lasts around thirty minutes. During this visit, we will conduct a quick survey of the home, discuss your goals and vision for your new loft, answer any questions that you may have, and provide you with a fixed quotation for the work discussed.
While no two loft conversions are the same, once the initial on-site consultation has been conducted, we try to deliver our quotation within two days. However, depending on the size and complexity of your project, it may take up to a week to provide a comprehensive quotation.
Design
The next phase of the process is the design stage. Two to three weeks after contracts are signed, clients must approve a set of plans through the in-house architectural team. During this time, both architectural drawings and the necessary structural calculations are reviewed.
The design stage is also when you apply for planning permission from the local authorities. Typically, it can take eight to twelve weeks to receive planning permission to begin the loft conversion project. But the wait is definitely worth it to ensure your loft meets all legal and safety requirements.
Building
Once all the legal boxes are checked, we can move on to the building phase. The actual construction period of the loft conversion is typically between eight to twelve weeks. However, this duration can vary depending on the complexity and size of the project, a delay with planning approval, or any other unforeseen issues that may arise. The exact estimated time frame for your loft conversion project is on the quote and contract.
One of the unique advantages of working with CS Lofts is our penalty clause. We understand how frustrating a prolonged construction project can be. You can’t return to your regular life when scaffolds are left up for months while contractors juggle multiple jobs. Therefore, the contract includes a penalty clause to protect you from such situations. If we take longer than the agreed timeframe to complete your loft conversion, we will deduct £500 per week from the final price until completion.
At CS Lofts, our transparent timeline, detailed quotations, and unique penalty clause ensure you’re fully informed and protected throughout the process. If you’re considering a loft conversion, you can browse our portfolio for examples of our work and contact us to schedule a consultation.
